any Aston is sex on legs :)
I would love a skyline etc but nothing pulls a bird better than a £100,000 of top calss Aston Martin :D + you dont feel like James Bond in other cars
Wouldnt mind one of them HUGE new rollers, and I mean HUGE.

heres a little story off the GTR board
Spent most of the morning polishing and cleaning - when the missus annouces she's off to Bluewater shopping "do you wanna come" - "err, NO" So i stayed home and yep the urge, the one none of us can resist took over, (it must be like crack to a junkie) i picked up my pal who hadn't been in the Skyline before and went out for a pose and a prowl.
We joined the M25 just after Clacketts and spotted a Vanquish in the middle lane, it sounded and looked awesome, he slowed down as i was coming off the slip! and flashed me, i'm now smiling like a cat, this don't get much better especially having my pal in the car who had heard about what it could do, but never experinced it first hand.
I looked across at Aston driver - he was a fairly young dude with his chick (quite fit) and both of us remained side by side for about half a mile playing nose it forward around 70. By now my adreniline was about to OD and i swear he must of said something like lets get rid of this skyline to his missus and he attempted to break away!
Normally i'm like a bull in a china shop and would decimated any worthy contender in a flash, but this time for some reason i just let him just pull away, I knew what these babies were caperble of and wanted to see what it would/could do. To be fair it really does move, but my faith returned with avengence and with him in the middle and me in the outside lane i just sat on his rear quarter matching his speed. I guess all he could see was my intercooler in his door mirror and for some reason it wasn't going away. lol.
Not that i condone playing on public tarmac but i just had to address the imbalance and as luck would have it down near Chessington it was clear as far as the eye could see, it was perfect. I dropped a cog and to say i reeled him in was under statement - i thundered past and moved in front, as i changed up a massive and i mean massive flame licked out of the screamer pipe - according to my mate he's never seen someone look so gutted and horrified at the same time!
'Naturally we were moderate' and shortly after dropped out of light speed and waited for him to pass, well you gotta haven't you, but he knew our game and wouldnt come up for more - poor sod, upstaged by a Datsun!
So eventually we pulled off and he followed us up the slip and drew along side. He beckoned me for a chat so i dropped the window and just smiled, I asked him what is was like owing the Vanquish to which he replied "it was a wonderful car up till 10 minute's ago!" and laughed. He then enquired if the Skyline was standard to which i just smiled. i guess for a split second it was mutual respect - his 170K bulldog was no longer king of the jungle and me, my pal and my now massive ego drove home in the best car on the planet.

Skylines to me just always seemed like the cars for people who couldnt afford an Aston or something equally as nice.
Teddy
04-01-2005, 02:10 AM
was waiting for the I beat an Aston Martin story :D
If you own one of those you dont care how fast it goes. For the money there are loads of other cars that you can buy which are much faster.
Aston Martin is a status symbol. Driving a skyline you could be any man - driving an Aston means your loaded :D The top end Vantage was around £150K - £200K new. For that you can buy a skyline and fit everything and anything to it and still have another for supra or 2.
Interestingly basic tech specs of the both the Vantage and Vanquish are better than a skyline (as they come out of the shop).
Vantage (http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/data.aspx?model_id=24&id=17032)
Vanquish (http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/derivative.aspx?manu_name=Aston+Martin&manufacturer_name=140&model_id=30&fueltype=&months=&spare1=&spare2=)
Skyline (http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/derivative.aspx?manu_name=Nissan&manufacturer_name=6425&model_id=638&fueltype=&months=&spare1=&spare2=)

Personally I would just go for the Skyline - but that's the boy racer in me talking ... maybe a Pagani Zonda S or something like that would be a nice alternative :D
Nathan
04-01-2005, 12:15 PM
Yeah the Vanquish was my fave but when the DB9 came out just had that something about it which put it into first place.
DB9 is the sex, but I still think the Vanquish looks better poised, smaller wheelbase too iirc so will prolly handle better.
Also, that pic ted posted is the "Baby" Vantage, the other bigger Vantage is the Project Vantage 600 iirc which featured in Jezza Clarksons 10 car, half mile test where the Cerbera won.
Some info on teh range of AMs and what they do etc (http://v8vantage.com/vantage.htm), I think the Vantage 600 is still the fastest stock AM they have ever made, V8 twin supercharged or summat stupid. :)
Would have to be one of these bad boys im afraid.

Even though the Skyline beat the Vanquish would still have an Aston. There is something about them.
Saying that though they are different cars. Different ends of the scale.

I just loved the fact that the brakes glowed when used on the mac-merc (as it shall be known)
Whether faster or marginally slower than the F1, two things spring to mind.
1) Those sorts of speeds are never going to be reached on the roads in and around england (without a lot of unwanted attention)
2) The chances of me owning one, are well.......1 in 16million I guess.

Allow me to respond...
1) True, and if you are going that speed, there will more then likely be a helo keeping pace with you.
2) You just never know man, you just never know. Stranger things have happenned, not to me mind...
Well, if you end up with a maca-merc and i end up with a maca F1 we can give em a bit of a blitzing over in Germany. Unlikely, but even with a 1 in 16 mill chance, gotta be worth planning. ;)

I can see where you've gone wrong there ... you've chosen the the shallow trolly with high clearance - but that has given you a high centre of gravity and increased the likelyness of it tipping over when cornering hard.
Personnally I like the Sainsbury's deep basket .. nice low centre of gravity, roomy and with bottle holders for when you either visit maccy d's or are on the way back from the off licence !

I just love the styling of the Alfas. They lost their way big time in the '80s with abominations like the 33 and the 75, but they've come right back with some of the best looking (IMO) cars around.
Probably not the best made, or longest lasting, but when did you last hear anyone complain that Lucy Pinder isn't very efficient at household management?

I was out with my mother looking for a new car this afternoon in Reading, and we stopped by the Lancaster Garages on the relief road between Reading town centre & the M4.
Having spent the best part of an hour wandering round, I'd probably go with a new Jaguar XJR in Racing Green for a weekly runabout, and something like a Vanquish for weekend fun.

I'd love to see MG Rover come back, but frankly unless they can put out some GOOD new designs out instead of slapping a body kit in a rover 200 then they are destined to fail imo. Bah...
If you *had* to have a BMW (with optional *******tronic (http://www.sniffpetrol.com/issue059.html) ), you could at least go for a decent one...

alpha romeos are one of those cars with the quirky designs I dont like
a bit like saabs.
to all you ALFA romeo...non enjoyers...and disbelievers, they make great cars, for the price they can outhandle many cars that arent even close to the price range. I have owned one for two years and havent had any troubles with it. I self maintain what i need to, and in proper intervals as people should do, otherwise these cars do what you all think they do. Non caring owners got the worst out of these cars.
Anyways i think my dream car would have to be an Alfa Romeo TZ-2
Perhaps im an alfa fanatic, but i dont see where you guys see these cars having been wrong.
That being said...this is one sexy car

Yes and for good reason. ;)
the only exceptions in my book are the Mustang Cobra and the Dodge Viper but purely on a style level.

come on...
The GMC van is a design classic (and also indestructable if you believe the plots in the A-Team :))
Edit: And not forgetting that every Jaguar, Aston Martin & Land-rover built after 1995 are *technically* American...(The most recent Astons also share parts with the ford mondeo...)

Only the engine blocks now,I believe, which they join 2 together to form the V12.

There was a big furore a while back, as I think it was the interior door-handles. If you bought the one for one of the Astons through AM spares, it was somewhere in the region of £200, wheras if you went to a ford garage, and got the ones for a Mondeo ST series, they were a lot more reasonable £60 :)

If you have a look at the lock barrels on a DB7 they are like the ones on a Mondeo. Some of them are chromed so they do look better but on some of the DB7's they are that black plastic type.

Only had about 140 bhp from the V6, not exactly muscle.I like the Capri too but it would need to be Chip Foosed to bring it up to date.

Um...did the Capri ever have an Injection engine? (thus, could it even be chipped?)
Had a play in a Mk3 Hillclimber once that was ridiculously good fun in the dry, but lethal in the wet
m8 used to have 2l mini for hill climbs he had to remove most of the inner wings to squeeze the engine in but used to go some :)

The later V6's had injection. They started out as 3 litre with carbs but the 2.8 was fuel injected. I don't know about chipping them though. I would imagine that it would have been a mechanical setup rather than electronic. Can you chip those?
I had a humble 1600 Mk1 as my first car.
Just googling around and found this. Probably the ultimate Capri.

IMO it needs a V8. Mind you a twin turbo V6 would be rather amusing.

Sort of there was a preposed silloete (sp) variant of it where the car just had to look like its donor car, tho in the stratos one it was pretty much just a lowered rally stratos iirc
