rite this is my problem......

im getting ready to start playing games again, albiet laying down, which is rather complicated :p....

but wot i would like is a way to either

1) limit the bandwith to specific program (the game), or
2) limit the bandwith to a specific machine, (my gaming rig)

bassically i have a ADSL connection, but dial up with a modem to play games , which will now cost me money, cos BT cancelled mine , for overuse :u02 .

so bassically i just would like to find a way to get a 150-200 ping with a 512k DSL .

i have tryed fakelag(in HL) before, but its V spiky and noweher near the same. so i didnt even look into similar commands for other games.

i have also tryed running an e-donkey client at 45k limit (which didnt work, cos as it reached the cap. it spikes like crazy), and also running an FTP download, capped (which DID sorta work, but abviously its not possible to have a continious source of FTP servers to DL stuff off).

now i know this is probably hard. if not impossible to do, but any idea's would be greatly appreciated.

a hardware option is also acceptable, and im willing to spend a moderate amount of cash to achieve it. i also have at least one machine, i could dedicate to doing the task (more if needed)

also if it matters , i only really play tribes 2, so specific HL, quake etc etc, stuff is not really any good.

so there ya go, any software genius's out there, heres ure chance to impress me :p :u08 :u22

wingate allows you 2 set bandwidth limits...

why do you want a 56.6 limit tho'?

aha, wingate eh, i used that many years ago, ill giove that a try , see if it does the trick, ta muchly...

and the reason , is just that i prefer to play at 200 ping, for a few reasons, most importantly of which, is that quite a few ppl i play with regularly are modem users, so i want to keep an even playing field, by not having a massive ping advantage over them. (thats y i kept my modem all this time, till BT screwed me over :( )

also in essence im a LAN gamer (i was untill my recent probs, and hope to return heavily to the LAN scene ASAP), and ive always found that playing at low ping online, even short term, makes my LAN performance suffer majorally , i get real lazy, and having to think faster then everyone else online, gives me a huge advantage wen i play the same ppl at equal speed (lans) .

but neway, ill grab that wingate and install her soon, hopefully it will give me the best of both worlds.
