Make sure that you have dmi set on both ide channels. It's always a starting place. Then try and look for updated drivers for all your hardware (try motherboard first). The next thing is do a search on your machine for msblast.exe (my mate had this and it did the same on his system)

waste of time, why not put effort in to find out what caused the fault and then u won't do it again, reulting in yet another re-install if it breaks because u did the same operation/ installation as b4 without reasearching.. (excuse the punctuation)

there is no point formatting. it was me !! mwahahaha. i have buggered your pc lazarus and ill do it again. you can kerep re-formatting but i will keep causing your pc to act up. it isnt malfunctioning. it is doing exactly what i tell it to do. it is actually setting aside all the CPU power to work out the exact geographical dimensions of planet earth in relation to the sun so i can harvest the nuclear rays of the sun to power my evil casio calculator at an optimal rate

My pc was freezing in my computer due to virtual drives conflicting with western digital HD's , so theres a new one apparently its a common cause,

my ethics are inline with Bobsters thoughts..

Its much better to try and root out a problem so as to avoid it in the future. Its a much greater sense of achievement than just formatting.

However, in some instances its just not practical.

At work, if we have time, we try to resolve issues, if not, its format and reinstall..ala Teddy's response.

In an ideal world, you'd get one problem at a time and have all the time in the world to research it.

The first step is to keep it running good in the first place so it does not go wrong.

My machines run well until i...........

upgrade major hardware eg Mobo - taken for granted that u will be reinstalling

installing crap software - 99% of the time my reformat is related to some crap codec or utilitiy. Games these days thoguh seem t be fine unless it from Valve :P

Give someone else access :P - I have my machine in my room with a single login :) - My other PC is downstaris and everyone uses it. its runs like ****e :) but who cares it aint mine :)
