Well if were going to bring this rule back in
i would rather take the feed back from the users before the Moderators make any decisions on it.

Now PLEASE bare in mind that there is still modem users about
so i still wont let on silly sizes.

Old setting was

File Size 10kb
dimensions 600x100

as a guideline
my sig is
10.1kb
500x100

Personally i don’t see why a sig should be more than 10kb
but if you really feel the need then state it here please.

This is the size that we used to limit on sig images

To see the size of someones sig
just RIGHT mouse on the image
and go to "PROPERTIES"
that will display the info you need.

or download it and view right mouse the same.

Personally i don't feel the need to have a large sig, so imo these 'rules' are ok by me.

(my 10p worth)

yeah im cool with it, when i was on 56k it was a pain in the ass to load a busy thread. I think there should be a little le-way on sizes etc but nothing to big though.

I got so sick of some peoples signatures, that I have them turned off now.

As for my own, as far as I know, its just a line of text and thats it.

I am happy with anything less than 15kb (10 seems a little to small for me). The size is perfect though :)

Mine however, like Colio, is only text so i aint really bothered for myself

i think maybe allow 15kb but still keep AND ENFORCE the 100 pixel height limit cos when you looking at a thread, u dont wanna have just a load of ****e listed in front of you and then have to pick out the text in between. i think just the whole sig (not just the image) should have a height limit. so a sig which is text only but still about 20 lines shouldnt be allowed.

i think upping the image size (a bit) is ok cos of the amount of broadband users has dramatically increased. i know a lot of people are still on 56k but they do have the option to turn off the sigs if they want.

aye i dont see a problem with a higher limit (as monger suggested above), possibly as my sig is pretty large (size wise, 50kb but i did do my best to get it as small as possible without losing the content)... I mean, theres a lot more broadband users on here now, as monger said sig images can be turned on or off, but does this apply to avatars? I've seen some pretty large animated avatars, and imo these avs are more of a problem than large sigs since u cant turn em off (no way i know of anyway)

If admins feel the size of my sig is too large, tell me and i'll happily remove it. :u09

I echo the scentiments of MaZ

Size, to me isnt that much of a problem, I quite enjoy some of the animated sigs that are on the boards, makes the whole browsing experiance feel allot less flat. We should however use some descression, lets not go making an animated gif 500 x 10 of a 90minuite movie :).... unless its Snatch.

The size thing however, should be completely enforced.

So would everyone agree with

15kb
600x100 (pixels)

For Text in Sig - 6 lines? (5/6 lines is around 100 pix high ish)

Avatars
You can turn Avatars off
but if its getting to the stage where people need to cause of over size then its time to enforce it.

say 10kb? -

again we need your feed back on this as its you using the boards.

id say 10kb tis a bit samall 4 avatars, on 56k i didnt have much trouble with the avatar sizes, i think the 22kb limit is fine as it is, but tbh id actually like to see an increase to about 22 - 40 kbs ( *when the new forums up*) cause ppl spend alot of time customising there appearance and 10kb i think will just restrict what we can do, at the mo i wouldnt say its OTT.

-i agree with all of the above cause with 2 many restrictions itl look like the printable version :D

* in the new forums perhaps we could exchange some image size for bigger sigs :u19 ie 60x60 pixels @ 5kb till u find out who uses 56k or BB

in case there is a mix up with sizes here

my avatar is 0.345 kb
yours is 10kb
so your about at the limit

modem users
for a modem user to open a 60kb image can take around 15/20 seconds

now if u times that by 15 posts in a thread
20kb x 15 for avatars
15kb x 15 for sigs u can see where the delay is

on top of this the posts and buttons/banners have to load

when ever i get on a modem connection i make it 1st job to browse GameOn site & forums checking speeds, and believe me we make our site as modem friendly as possible yet its still very painful to view.

the 20000 bytes your referring to for avatars is just a limit for image uploads (its set to 20000 bytes for uploading images in to posts) 20000 bytes is aprox 200kb
The image upload limit forces it on everything which is a pain – the new system will let us set the size for avatars on there own.

bytes / bits / always get people mixed up - very common so don’t worry about it.

Hope that helps with the sizes a bit more

just as a side note

most modem users theses days cant get BB which is why they are on modem still, and if they cant get BB most people i know dont have a good connection (due to being to far away from exchange)

We watch the stats with our site carefully and monitor what DNS names are coming in - from this 90% of the time we can work out if they are on BB or dial up.

Avatar 50x50 wont be going up just yet
that is planned for the future but it can look silly it there to big - they just end up taking over what the thread is about.
Wait till u see the system cause there is different ways of displaying things out.

i agree with this :) To me, as a 600k cable user at home and a t1 user at work, im not bothered about bandwidth (altho i know our 56k buddies certainly are) im more bothered about peoples sigs taking up uberspace physically on my screen. thats my 2p. i also think to be fair on the 56k dudes, to keep the limit pretty low like 15-20k on sigs
